Welcome to Cotton Sale
About Cotton
Cotton is a natural fiber that is spun into yarn or thread, producing a soft, breathable fabric that is the most widely used natural-fiber cloth used in clothing today. It's prized for its soft texture and cool breathability; because it's grown from a plant, it's also a "green" product from a natural, renewable source. As a fiber, food and feed crop, all parts of the cotton plant are utilized. Cottonseed (extracted from crushed cotton seeds) is a common component in many food products and is extensively used in the preparation of such snack foods as crackers, cookies and chips. The cotton seed meal and hulls are used as livestock, poultry and fish feed and as fertilizer.
History of cotton
Cotton has been spun, woven, and dyed since prehistoric times. The earliest cultivation of cotton discovered thus far in the Americas occurred in Mexico, some 5,000 years ago, but evidence of its use in more ancient civilizations goes back much further, to the 4th millennium B.C., in the Indus region (now known as India).
Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is cotton that is grown without insecticide or pesticide. If this is important to you, make sure any cotton yarn or cloth or finished items you purchase contain the word "organic."
Why you might prefer to wear 100% cotton products
Many people prefer to wear 100% cotton products and/or use them in their homes, rather than synthetic fabrics. There are many reasons for this:
- cotton is lightweight and breathable, which helps regulate body temperature in hot weather
- cotton is hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for people with sensitive skin
- cotton is naturally soft
- cotton is dust-mite resistant - for people with asthma and allergies, it's the first choice for linens and other bedding, as well as clothing
- cotton is the only fiber that becomes stronger when it's wet
- cotton is a biodegradable, renewable resource
These are some of the reasons we prefer cotton. Our goal is to bring you the largest variety of cotton sale items available. If you love cotton like we do, you'll appreciate the experience we can provide at CottonSale.com!
